Welcome message from President Daniels and Provost Akridge

August 22, 2022

Dear Boilermakers,

Welcome to the new academic year, with a special welcome to all of our new undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and staff. We will be setting another enrollment record for our campus this fall with more than 50,000 undergraduate and graduate students and we will be joined by 213 new faculty, also the largest number in our history. Whether we are welcoming you for the first time or welcoming you back, we are thrilled to have you here as we prepare for another exciting year at Purdue.

We are looking forward to an engaging and rewarding year of learning and discovery. Students, as you settle into this new academic year, please know that everyone at Purdue is committed to providing an environment where you can pursue your highest aspirations – and succeed at them. We hope your time at Purdue challenges each of you intellectually and provides opportunities for you to grow as a leader, as a citizen and as an individual.

As much as we all wish it would, COVID-19 has not gone away, and we encourage everyone to be alert for any symptoms and take appropriate steps to protect your health and that of others if you are sick. The latest Protect Purdue guidelines can be found here.

We also want to remind all Boilermakers that ours is a community of respect in which we can all live, learn, work and grow, and each of you is a valued member of that community. We encourage you to respect the right of others to express ideas you may passionately disagree with while you personally uphold the values we all hold true as Boilermakers – those of integrity, respect, honor, inclusion, innovation and growth.

This year will be one of growth, promise and transition. In early 2023, you will be hearing from our new president, Mung Chiang, as he starts his new role as Purdue’s 13th president. During this academic year, President-elect Chiang will be hosting listening sessions and will be meeting with faculty, staff and students. We encourage you to join one of those sessions and get to know our incoming president.

We are looking forward to another dynamic, engaging and rewarding year here at Purdue and wish you every success.

Sincerely,

Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr.
President
